Alumni banquet set for next month

Portland’s alumni banquet is coming up next month.

Portland High School Alumni Association’s annual banquet is slated for June 21 at Wheel & Spoke Event Center in Portland. Social hour begins at 4 p.m., with the dinner to start at 5 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and are available to Portland High School alumni and their guests.

Honored classes this year are 1975, 1970, 1965, 1960, 1955, 1950 and 1945.

“This will be the final traditional banquet because the last Portland High School graduating class of 1975 will be the honored,” explained association president Dale Wolford, a graduate of the Class of 1973. “Next year a new event will replace the alumni banquet and will serve as a way to celebrate our heritage as Panthers.”

Banquet reservation forms may be found at portlandpantherproud.com. Alumni should mail their reservations with payment to Portland High School Alumni Association, P.O. Box 218, Portland, IN 47371. The deadline is May 31.

Hall of Fame

Cincinnatus League is looking for individuals to induct into its Hall of Fame at Jay County Fair this year.

The organization honors those who have contributed to the Jay County community through volunteer efforts by inducting them into the Jay County Hall of Fame at the fairgrounds in Portland. Qualifications stipulate individuals must be at least 65 years old by the time of the event, live in Jay County or have significant ties to Jay County and have devoted time and effort to the community in ways beyond employment and occupation.

Nominations must be received by May 2. They may be sent to Cincinnatus League, PO Box 513, Portland, IN 47371, or emailed to [email protected].

Camps set

Indiana State Police will host camps for 11 through 18 year olds in June at Mounds State Park in Anderson.
