FR’s Homan breaks marks

ANSONIA, Ohio — Jenna Homan has already put together an impressive career as she took over as the career strikeouts leader on May 10.

Five days later, she wrote her name in the record books two more times.

Homan broke a pair of records in the circle on Thursday as she helped lead the Fort Recovery High School softball team to a 4-2 victory over the Ansonia Tigers in the regular season finale.

The first record she broke in the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning. As she sat down Avalyn Loche for her fifth strikeout of the game, Homan surpassed Andi Sutter for the single-season strikeout record. Sutter set the previous record in 2010 with a mark of 142 strikeouts. Homan sat three more Tigers down to elevate her season total to 146 with at least one more game to play.

Along with the eight strikeouts, Homan went the distance, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks to earn the win.

That win broke the season win record of 13 set by her sister, Jackie Homan, in 2019.

Homan did even more work for Fort Recovery (12-9) in the game as she drove in three runs on three hits. She singled in the top of the first inning to plate Emma Will — the senior scored two runs, tying Brenna Homan at 109 career runs scored — and get up on Ansonia (12-11) early.

In the sixth inning, Homan drove in Will and Layla Armstrong on a single or center field.

The other Tribe run came on a hit by Kayla Heitkamp in the third inning that allowed Homan to touch home plate.

The Indians will have four days to rest before they travel to Tri-County North (16-9) on Tuesday to take on the second-seeded Panthers in the district semifinal at 5 p.m. The winner will advance to Friday’s championship game.
