Aiden Phillips left the game after getting the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

The relievers that followed couldn’t get the job done as the Golden Falcons ran away with the victory.

The Jay County High School baseball game blew a narrow lead to the Winchester Community Golden Falcons for a 12-3 loss in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader and couldn’t get the bats going in the second game as it fell 4-0.

Phillips tossed four scoreless innings for Jay County (9-12), while a Leighton Brown home run in the third put JCHS up 1-0.

Upon Phillips’ departure from the mound, Winchester (16-3) scored two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and seven in the seventh inning. Brown suffered the loss after giving up two runs on one hit and two walks without recording an out in the sixth.

Gavin Byrum drove in two runs in the fifth with a double.

The Patriots only managed three hits in the second game, while WCHS scored four runs off Joseph Geesaman.

FAIRMOUNT — The Jay County softball team competed in the Argyll Invite on Saturday, beating up on the Cowan Blackhawks 23-4 before sneaking past host Madison-Grant 12-10.

The top three spots of the Patriot (18-2) order produced a bulk of the offense against Cowan (6-14) as Brenna Ruble, Morgan Missicano and Jaelynn Lykins combined for 16 RBIs, 10 runs, 13 hits, four doubles, a triple and two home runs.

Carley Trinidad earned the win after giving up four runs in four innings.

JCHS and Madison-Grant (17-7) traded the lead back and forth before the Patriots entered the bottom of the seventh down 10-9. With two outs and runners on first and second, Jozey Shimp blasted a 3-run, walk-off home run to right field. Trinidad earned the victory in game No. 2.

LAPEL — Win against the Blackford Bruins and the Lapel Bulldogs on Saturday put the Jay County girls tennis team above .500 for the first time this year.

The Patriots now hold a 7-6 record after taking down Blackford 5-0 and sneaking past the Bulldogs 3-2.

Brenna Bailey beat both opponents at the No. 1 singles position with scores of 6-0, 6-0 against Blackford and 6-2, 6-4 versus Lapel. She is still undefeated on the season at 13-0 with only one regular season match remaining.

Both JCHS doubles teams, Faith Faulkner and Raylah Newton at No. 1 and Gretchen Link and Sophia Sprunger at No. 2, split on the day.

Tribe loses

ARCANUM, Ohio — The Fort Recovery baseball team got down early against the Arcanum Trojans in a 11-1 defeat on Saturday.
