COLDWATER, Ohio — The Tribe graduated multiple Midwest Athletic Conference champions in 2024, but it will still have some representation at the banquet that caps off the season.
Anna Roessner won the 100-meter dash as she led the Fort Recovery High School girls track team to a seventh-place at the MAC Championships hosted by Coldwater on Friday.
The girls finished with 42 points to finish seventh in the 10-team field. Host Coldwater claimed the MAC title with a score of 132.
Marion Local won the boys meet with 133.5 points, while the Tribe slipped back to 10th with just 13.
Roessner posted a 12.00 seconds time in the 100 dash to beat out Coldwater’s Claire Bertke by 0.77 seconds for the top spot. The FRHS senior also scored points in the 200 and 400 dashes, in which she finished as the runner-up to Izzy Zahn of Coldwater. (Zahn is the reigning OHSAA Division III state champion in the 200 dash).
Other points for the girls came from Elisa Evers in the discus (fifth), Karlie Niekamp in the discus (seventh) and shot put (fifth), Kennedy Muhlenkamp in the 800 run (sixth) and Madison Heitkamp in the 100 hurdles (sixth).
Isaac Roessner led the boys team with a fourth-place finish in the 300 hurdles (42.44 seconds) and by placing sixth in the long jump (19 feet, 8 inches).
Other points for the boys came from Carson Fullenkamp in the shot put (seventh), the 4x200-meter relay team (seventh) and the 4x400 relay team (eighth).
Jay wins
RICHMOND — The Jay County girls tennis team picked up a 3-1 win on Friday against the Richmond Devils before rain ended the No. 2 doubles match early.
Brenna Bailey kept her record spotless at the No. 1 singles position with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Celina Cheng.
Tessa Frazee added some reinforcement as she claimed the No. 3 singles match over Lily Hiltner 6-1, 6-0.
The No. 1 doubles duo of Faith Faulkner and Raylah Newton got by Daina Ruiz-Sanches and Polly Smith 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 to claim the match.
Meredith Dirksen couldn’t hold on for the No. 2 singles point as she fell to Rowan Bailey 6-4, 6-3.
Gretchen Link and Sophia Sprunger had split the first two sets with Yarexci Rojas-Cruz and Magdolyn Zajdel before rain ended the No. 2 doubles contest. The Patriot (5-6) pair lost the first set 6-4 before claiming the second 7-6 (7-4). They were down 3-1 before the match was called.
