2024-25 season

The Patriots put together a solid season, finishing with a 10-4 record, but fell short in conference with losses to South Adams in the regular season and at the Allen County Athletic Conference meet. They were able to get some revenge on the Starfires, finishing fourth at the sectional, while SAHS placed fifth with a 57-point difference. The highest sectional finish for the Patriots came from the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Brooklynn Byrum, Aubrey Millspaugh, Lauren Fisher and Sophia Hoevel. The group placed third in the event with a time of 4 minutes, 0.24 seconds. Maddy Snow made it to the diving regional for a third year in a row, but didn’t advance to state.

Games to watch

Tuesday, Dec. 2, vs. Bluffton

The Tigers have run the ACAC from the boys side. If the Patriots want to make a serious push this year for the conference title, that job will start early when they open the season by hosting Bluffton.

Friday-Saturday, Jan. 9-10, vs. JCHS Invitational

The Jay County Invitational is a key midseason meet when the team starts to figure out the roles of the individual athletes. It also comes quickly after the winter break and helps whip the Patriots back into shape.

Saturday, Jan. 24, vs. ACAC Invitational

The Allen County Athletic Conference meet holds importance for bragging rights of the ACAC title and is an opportunity to get an idea of a lineup before heading into the sectional.

Coach Matt Slavik says

“We have a strong underclassmen group coming in as freshmen this year. We have four boys that are coming in who already had times at the end of their eighth grade year that were middle or upper as far as times for our team last year. We lost a couple of guys but we’ve got an extremely large senior class this year. With that addition that we have coming in, team wise, we should legitimately have a run at Bluffton in the conference. I know about where they’re at and we’re at and we can make it close if their hard work keeps up. I feel like it’s a good group of kids as far as the work they put in. They’re excited about coming back because this is the largest boys team that we’ve had in a long time. In the past, we’ve been discounted just because of numbers. It didn’t matter where we placed, we just didn’t have enough numbers to win dual meets. This year we have the numbers, we have divers, we have everything spread across the board to be pretty solid in dual meets, as well as our conference. Again, the goal at sectional is to do better than we did last year. We lost about eight seniors this year, so we’re going to basically go from a one-year opportunity for this team to come together. There’s no trial runs. It’s gotta be all foot on the gas, all season long. It’s a great group of kids. I’m super stoked for the entire season and the way they are working so far, I think it should all come together nicely.”
