Junior high boys hoopers rout Red Devils
Only five players scored for the Patriots, but that was all they needed to walk away with a double-digit win.
Strong performances from Abram Lee and Job Dirksen lifted the Jay County Junior High School eighth grade boys basketball team past the Richmond Red Devils 47-29 on Tuesday, while the seventh graders picked up a 41-28 victory.
Lee led the way for the Patriots with 22 points. He scored nine in the first quarter on three buckets inside the arc and one from deep. He went back inside to start the second quarter before hitting one more triple.
In the second half, Lee put in four more baskets, all in the third period.
Dirksen followed the effort from Lee with 15 points of his own. He hit a 3-pointer and two 2-pointers in the first quarter and had four more hoops in the third.
Bentley Comer, Finn Hemmelgarn and Dillon Dunnington combined for the remaining 10 points.
Carson Pfeifer and Sawyer Smitley led the seventh graders with 11 points apiece. Pfeifer did his damage in the first half, while Smitley spread his scoring out.
Also putting the ball into the basket was Parker Wasson (six points), Carter May (five), Calvin Jessup (five) and Beckham Hough (four).
The eighth grade team remains undefeated at 3-0, while the seventh graders moved to 2-1.
