ANSONIA, Ohio — The Tribe will be walking away from the weekend with some smiles.
The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team took down the Ansonia Tigers 25-12, 25-16, 25-16 on Saturday and was awarded the No. 2 seed in the OHSAA Division VI Southwest 3 district tournament.
Cameron Muhlenkamp led the Indians (7-11) with team highs in kills (14) and aces (three). She also had seven digs.
Brynn Willmann also had three aces while blocking three shots and putting down seven balls. Kenna Dues matched Willmann with seven kills as well.
Kayden Ranly had 29 assists, three blocks, three kills and three digs.
Fort Recovery will face 15th-seeded Riverside in the sectional championship on Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. hosted by Newton. A win earns it a spot in the district semifinal on Oct. 21 against either 12th-seeded Franklin Monroe or No. 11 seed Northeastern. The district final will likely be against either third seeded Triad or No. 6 seeded Houston. The championship will take place at Fairmont on Oct. 25.
Heitkamp leads
COLDWATER, Ohio — After a week off, Fort Recovery’s cross country teams traveled to Coldwater on Saturday to compete in the Lions Club Invitational.
The Tribe boys team finished 17th with a 481, while the girls’ 447 points placed 18th.
Riley Heitkamp posted the best finish of all the Indians as she claimed 20th with a time of 21 minutes, 19.55 seconds.
The other four scores came from Madison Heitkamp (74th – 23:18.92), Kendall Ranly (147th – 26:34.72), Claire Grube (158th – 27:23.44) and Addyson Heitkamp (168th – 28:07.88).
Alex Roessner paced the boys with a 17:21.94 to claim 33rd.
The next four finishes came from Gavin Heitkamp (114th – 18:58.27), Andon Roessner (138th – 19:28.06), Andrew Rehmert (144th – 19:36.88) and Russell Hart (176th – 20:04.16).
The Tribe will return to Coldwater for the MAC championship on Oct. 11.
