Patriot softball wins holiday tournament
MIDDLETOWN — The Patriots played two games on Oct. 18, but poor weather delayed the semifinal and championship matchups until over a week later. When the time came, the Patriots played like they never left the field
The 12-and-younger Lady Patriots Softball team cleanly won the Shenandoah Halloween Tournament on Sunday with a 3-1 record.
Jay County beat the Selma Bluebirds 17-1 in the championship game. Ellie Wiggins pitched all three innings, giving up three hits and one earned run.
Audrey Miller led the offense with five RBIs on two doubles and a single. Emme Theurer and Maggie Westgerdes followed with three RBIs apiece, while Addison Champ drove two runs in.
Earlier in the day, the Patriots took down Shenandoah 11-2 in the semifinal.
Wiggins tossed all four innings, giving up four hits and two runs while striking out eight batters.
Theurer’s offensive performance led the way with a trio of RBIs on three hits. Kynlee Homan also drove in multiple runs with a single.
Champ, Westgerdes, Wiggins and Kali Conatser also had an RBI in the semifinal.
