Tribe spikers beat Bulldogs

CELINA, Ohio — The Tribe has had an up-and-down season. Right now they are on the upward as they took down the Bulldogs.

Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team beat the Celina Bulldogs 25-22, 15-25, 25-17, 26-24 on Monday.

Cameron Muhlenkamp, Bridget Homan and Brynn Willmann powered the offense for the Indians (3-4). Muhlenkamp put down 12 balls, while Homan had 10 kills and Willmann had nine.

On the backline, Kayla Gaerke had 26 digs and Kenna Dues added 21.

Homan and Alexis Grisez shared a team-high three blocks. The Tribe tallied 11 aces as well with Gaerke leading with four.


ACAC loss

MONROEVILLE — The Jay County boys soccer team fell to the Heritage Patriots 5-4 on Monday.

Jacoby Penrod scored the lone goal of the first half for Jay County (4-3-1, 1-1 ACAC) on an assist from Jaxson DeHoff.

After entering the intermission tied 1-1, the Patriots built a 3-2 lead on another Penrod goal, this one assisted by Emmitt Reynolds, and a score from Rockland Beiswanger.

Heritage (3-3, 1-0 ACAC) managed to find the back of the net three more times, while JCHS scored one more time with 11 minutes remaining. Brody Collins scored the goal with Elias Mueller assisting.

Peyton Yowell made 16 saves in the loss.


Knapke leads

DELPHOS, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls golf team kept the ball rolling as it took down the St. John’s Bluejays 199-217 at Delphos Country Club on Monday.

Olivia Knapke led the way for the Indians (9-1, 5-1 MAC) as her 44 strokes earned match medalist honors. (Megan Kerner shot the low for St. Jon’s with a 49.)

Mallory Evers shot a 50 to provide the second-best score, while Cora Pearson shot a career-best 52.

Evvie Briner shot a 53 to round out the team score. Georgia Wenning put up a 54 that didn’t factor into the final, while Layla Armstrong had a 60.


Patriots fall

Despite a pair of Patriots shooting career-best marks, Jay County’s girls golf team lost to the Monroe Central Golden Bears 189-217 on Monday at Portland Golf Club.

Erin Aker matched her career best of 50 strokes, while Taven Bently set a new mark at 56. Aker finished her round strong with five consecutive bogeys, while Bently made one par and one bogey.

Charlee Morris of Monroe Central earned match medalist honors after putting up a 43.

Alexa Ridenour shot a 53 for Jay County (2-8) with two bogeys and a par.

Both Elizabeth Brunswick and Reny Lingo carded 58s to round out the team score.


Fort falls

The Fort Recovery boys golf team fell two strokes short of the St. John’s Bluejays in a 170-172 loss at Portland Golf Club on Monday.

Reece LeFevre performed well as he finished two strokes over par with a 37 that earned match medalist honors. He started his round with two bogeys before rattling off seven pars. Tyce McClain finished one stroke behind LeFevre with a 38.

Garrett Diller shot his career best and the second-best score for Fort Recovery (7-5, 4-4 MAC) with a 43. He made one birdie, three pars and three bogeys in the round.

Caleb Smith, Luke Fortkamp and Andrew Rehmert all carded 46s to round out the team score. Carson Fullenkamp shot a 53.
