TROY, Ohio — The Indians weren’t all running together, but they put up some solid times.
Fort Recovery High School’s cross country teams competed at the Troy Twilight Invitational on Saturday evening as the bulk of the Indians competed in the white race, while the top two boys ran the gray race and the girls’ leaders ran in the scarlet competition.
The FRHS boys placed 15th out of 26 scoring teams in the white division with 354 points. The girls fell to 20th out of 27 teams with enough runners as they had 512 points. (Tecusmeh won the boys race with 125, while a 126 gave Cincinnati St. Ursula Academy the title in the girls competition.)
Alex Roessner had the top finish of the Indians as his time of 17 minutes, 27.5 seconds, earned fifth place in the gray division. Reese Diller followed with an 18:23.1 that earned him 27th.
In the scarlet division, Makenna Huelskamp took 55th with a time of 20:15.9, while Riley Heitkamp placed 183rd with a 22:08.2.
On the team front, Russell Hart paced the boys with a run of 19:03.7 that got 25th in the white division. Evan Diller (37th) and Andon Roessner (91st) also placed in the top 100 with times of 19:31.6 and 20:19.8, respectively.
Other scores came from Ben Vogel (137th – 20:52.4) and Charlie Stammen (166th – 21:22.6).
Mason Laux’s run of 22:22.8 didn’t crack the top five but it did take away points from other teams.
Madison Heitkamp paced the girls team by finishing in 23:53.2 for 34th place. Kendall Ranley was the only other Indian to cross in the top 100 as she placed 87th with a 25:52.7. The other three scores came from freshmen Claire Grube (159th – 27:35.8), Yoslin Juarez-Gomez (168th – 27:46.9) and Addyson Heitkamp (184th – 28:20.3).
Tribe is 16th
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery boys golf team finished 16th out of 21 teams at the Nate Niekamp Invitational at the Mercer County Elks Golf Course on Saturday.
The Indians shot a 352, while Shawnee won the title with a 317.
Reece LeFevre shot the team’s low score of 75. That mark took third place, earning him a spot on the All-Invitational Team. He shot a 40 on the front nine before improving for 35 on the back.
Caleb Smith struggled on the front with a 50 before his 39 on the back totaled 89 for the Indians’ second best mark.
Garrett Diller shot a 93 for the Tribe, while Luke Fortkamp rounded out the team score with a 95.
Carson Fullenkamp’s 108 did not impact the final result.
The Tribe will play in the sectional at Shelby Oaks Golf Club today at 8:30 a.m. before facing Newton on Thursday and the MAC tournament Saturday.
