SIDNEY, Ohio — The Tribe won’t be moving onto the district this year, but one Indian will.
Reece LeFevre claimed match medalist honors for the 11th time this season to punch his individual bid to the district tournament after the Fort Recovery High School boys golf team fell five strokes short at the OHSAA Division III Southwest Sectional golf meet at Shelby Oaks Golf Club on Tuesday morning.
The Tribe finished sixth at the meet with a 344, while only the top four teams — Lehman Catholic (313), Botkins (327), Russia (333) and Emmanuel Christian Academy (339) — advanced to the district tournament.
LeFevre earned match medalist honors by shooting a three-over-par 75. The score earned him a spot at the district meet at Pipestone Golf Club on Sept. 29 along with Triston Woolley (78) of Jackson Center, Troy Christian’s Gabe Barhorst (82) and Cannon Hazelbaker (82) of Jackson Center.
The highlight of his round was an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole. LeFevre also made birdies on the first, third, 13th and 14th holes which included two par-5s and two par-4s. He supported the highlights with six pars, five bogeys and two double-bogeys.
Caleb Smith provided the second-best score for Fort Recovery at 87 strokes. He had a strong back nine, making three birdies to shoot a 39.
Andrew Rehmert provided a 90 for the third score, while Luke Fortkamp carded a 92 to round out the team score. Garrett Diller shot a 94 that didn’t impact the team’s final.
The Tribe will still continue the regular season with a match at Newton today and the MAC Tournament on Saturday.
