Glen (Bud) L. Finch, age 89, passed away on Friday, Jan. 9, at Persimmon Ridge Healthcare in Portland, Indiana.

He was born April 3, 1936, in Portland, Indiana, the son of the late Glenn and Grace (Whitman) Finch. He married Carolyn Wiley in 1955 and she passed away in 2016.

He was preceded in death by his sisters and brother, Bob (Annie) Finch, Francis (Shorty) Boggs, Annabelle (Ernie) Groves, Betty (Robert) Edsel, Emily (Fred) McFarland, Alice (John) Hare, Bonnie Brown and Dixie Pitman.

Bud graduated in 1954 from Portland High School. He worked at the Portland Water Department, Indiana Michigan Power and American Electric Power, and co-owned Finch Grocery. He was a member of West Walnut Street Church of Christ and attended Portland Friends Church with his special friend Joyce Thomas.

Surviving are his children, Connie (John) McClain of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Teresa McIntire of Monticello, Brenda (Marty) Ryan of Lawrenceburg, Robin Finch and (Barbara Pedone) of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Kristy Inman (Jamie Baughman) of Muncie; eight grandchildren, John Michael, Deanna, Ashley, Aaron, Austin, Grace, Alicia and Kaylee; and eight great-grandchildren Autumn, Emma, Daphne, Dane, Darcy, Dominic, Adelina and Caroline.

His dog “Lucky Boy” was very loyal and always checked on him throughout the day to make sure he was OK. His hobbies were watching the San Francisco Giants and the Indianapolis Colts, and he and Joyce would drive the golf cart out to watch the Portland Rockets play. He always had a big smile on his face while watching the Rockets and was known for being one of the greatest power hitters in Rocket history.

Although his passing has left a hole in our hearts, his faith in God and how he lived was a gift to all that knew him. He loved being around people and never knew a stranger. We will remember him not how his life ended, but how he lived his life.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. in the West Walnut Street Church of Christ with Pastor Gil Alicea presiding. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the West Walnut Street Church Fellowship Hall.

Memorials can be made to West Walnut Street Church of Christ or Portland Friends Church.

Baird-Freeman Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
