Arts Place hosting piano, guitar labs


There are more opportunities upcoming to learn how to play a musical instrument.

Registration is also open for Arts Place’s piano and guitar labs at its Jay County Campus. The labs are group lessons. They are open to second through fourth graders for piano and fourth through 12th graders for guitar. The cost is $30 and $40, respectively.

Guitar labs will begin Feb. 23, while piano labs will start March 12.

Also, the art exhibit Come Back Patricia Whack by Jolynn Reigeluth is on display at the Jay County Campus of Arts Place through Feb. 16.

Contest is open

The Indiana Association of School Principals’ 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest for sixth through eighth graders is now open.

Students are asked to write essays based on the following King quote:

“There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right.”

Additional contest information is available at iasp.org/students/mlk-jr-essay. The deadline to submit essays is Friday, Feb. 27.


Ag meeting scheduled

Purdue Extension will host its east region 2026 Agriculture Outlook Meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Randolph County Fairgrounds.

The event will feature speakers sharing information about agriculture, policy, markets and farm well-being. They include:

•Don Lamb, director of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, on his perspective on current and emerging agriculture issues in the state

•Zoe Robinson of the Purdue Farm Stress Team, on information and resources for farmers
