Redkey fires former marshal
REDKEY — The former town marshal has been fired. Redkey Town Council decided at a special meeting Monday to terminate officer Chris Jack’s employment, effective immediately.
Sewer, water increases OK'd
Dunkirk City Council approved ordinances increasing sewer and water rates by 3%, as they had discussed at meetings over the last two months.
County plans to meet with POET, Minnich
Jay County Commissioners agreed Monday to invite officials from the POET Bioprocessing ethanol plant to their next meeting Aug. 25. They also discussed hopes to establish a road use agreement with Minnich Poultry in the near future.

Deal not renewed
Jay County will not renew its contract with East Central Indiana Regional Planning District. Jay County Commissioners voted 2-1 against entering into another two-year contract with East Central Indiana Regional Planning District during their meeting Wednesday.
Radio project moves ahead
Jay County Commissioners agreed Wednesday to move forward with a $6 million to $7 million project with Motorola to connect the county to the statewide public safety system.
Non-reverting fund established
Dunkirk City Council on Monday approved the creation of a non-reverting fund for the fire department, allowing it to retain revenue from fire protection contracts over the long term.
Planned housing projects discussed
The Portland Redevelopment Commission discussed the status of proposed developments on 68 acres on the west side of Portland and the upper three floors of the Hood Building during its meeting Friday.
Dollars pulled from project
The redevelopment commission voted Wednesday to withdraw its $1.5 million commitment to the infrastructure project planned on county-owned land on the north side of Votaw Street on the western edge of Portland.
Council agrees to review ordinance
Portland City Council agreed to work with Ohio Valley Gas on potentially modifying the ordinance after hearing from a representative of the company at its meeting Monday.

The county isn’t establishing a moratorium on geological carbon sequestration. It has, however, enacted up to a one-year moratorium on wind farms. Jay County Commissioners upheld recommendations from Jay County Plan Commission during a public hearing and special meeting Monday.
Council brings in help, suspends officer, assistant
REDKEY — Town officials have decided it’s time to bring in some help. Redkey Town Council agreed during a special meeting Friday to a one-year contract at $4,500 a month with consulting firm Civitas Strategies.
