Working toward TIFs
On Monday, Dunkirk City Council gave Mayor Jack Robbins and city attorney Wes Schemenaur the OK to begin the process of creating TIF districts in the area of a planned housing project and the Main Street corridor.

Jay County Commissioners agreed Monday to move forward with contributing $100,000 in economic development income tax (EDIT) funds to the organization.

A former Jay County employee is suing the county for allegedly discriminating against her and denying her pay.
City suing former officer
The city is seeking $14,977, the full amount of the reimbursement agreement for training at Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. The agreement calls for officers to repay all or a portion of that total if they leave Portland Police Department within three years of completing training.
Holdman tax bills head to floor of Senate
The Indiana Senate Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee unanimously passed Senate Bills 451 and 452, sending them to the Senate floor for second reading.
Concern raised about access to services
Keni Lehman presented council members the concern, indicating a personal mental health crisis for about a month. Efforts to find help, specifically with paying for prescription medications, have not been fruitful.
FR council approves rezoning request
Fort Recovery Village Council denied a recommendation Monday from Fort Recovery Planning Commission, instead agreeing to rezone the property at 105 S. Elm St. to commercial.
Redkey barn venue gets exception
Jay County Board of Zoning Appeals agreed Thursday to grant a special exception usage for the property at 11765 W. 700 South, Redkey, to be used as an event center.
Replacing runway lights
Portland Board of Aviation on Wednesday approved the purchase and installation of new runway end lights while also addressing apron expansion and runway paving projects.
HVAC update approved
Fort Recovery School Board OK’d entering into an agreement Monday with Garmann Miller of Minster for a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) project at Fort Recovery Elementary-Middle School.
City seeks building transfer
Development is in the works in Dunkirk. One step in the process started with Jay County Commissioners on Monday. Commissioners agreed to move forward with a resolution to transfer real estate to a nonprofit organization.
Permission for projects
In its first meeting of 2025, Dunkirk City Council agreed to move forward with plans for a new apartment development and an effort to seek grant funding for a water line project.
Sheriff’s office getting 3 new vehicles
Jay County Commissioners OK’d Sheriff Ray Newton purchasing two new patrol vehicles and a new transport van for his department Monday.
Firm will handle salary analysis
Jay County Council agreed Wednesday to move forward with consulting firm Waggoner, Irwin, Scheele and Associates conducting a new salary analysis on county employees.
