Choirs finish 3rd in opener
The show choirs had a strong start to their seasons. Patriot Edition and Just Treble, Jay County High School’s show choirs, each finished third Saturday as they opened their season at the Northrop Classique 2025 in Fort Wayne.
Ag Week breakfast is set for March 18
The Jay County Ag Week Committee announced Thursday that it will host the Jay County Farmers Breakfast on Tuesday, March 18, in the Bob Schmit Memorial Exhibition Hall at Jay County Fairgrounds.
Kimball to leave county role
Jay County’s community coordinator has resigned. Nate Kimball, who has held the position since summer 2023, submitted his resignation in late November.

Drones sighted in Jay
Jay County emergency management and law enforcement officials met Wednesday morning with representatives from the FBI, Federal Aviation Administration, Indiana Department of Homeland Security and the military to discuss the drone activity in the area.
County approves transfer of parcel to DIDC
Jay County Commissioners approved a resolution Monday to transfer ownership of 303 S. Main St., Dunkirk, to nonprofit Dunkirk Industrial Development Corporation.
Working toward TIFs
On Monday, Dunkirk City Council gave Mayor Jack Robbins and city attorney Wes Schemenaur the OK to begin the process of creating TIF districts in the area of a planned housing project and the Main Street corridor.
County funding may be coming to JCDC
Jay County Commissioners agreed Monday to move forward with contributing $100,000 in economic development income tax (EDIT) funds to the organization.
Credit union construction
During the CrossRoads Financial Federal Credit Union annual meeting Saturday at Jay County Fairgrounds, president and CEO Donald Gillespie announced plans for a $1.1 million renovation project at the main branch in Portland.
Commission to negotiate
Portland Redevelopment Commission will work toward an agreement with a developer for a project in the Hood Building.
Former matron is suing county
A former Jay County employee is suing the county for allegedly discriminating against her and denying her pay.
City suing former officer
The city is seeking $14,977, the full amount of the reimbursement agreement for training at Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. The agreement calls for officers to repay all or a portion of that total if they leave Portland Police Department within three years of completing training.
Holdman tax bills head to floor of Senate
The Indiana Senate Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee unanimously passed Senate Bills 451 and 452, sending them to the Senate floor for second reading.
Concern raised about access to services
Keni Lehman presented council members the concern, indicating a personal mental health crisis for about a month. Efforts to find help, specifically with paying for prescription medications, have not been fruitful.
