Jay County High School sophomore Sophia Hoevel swims the 200-yard freestyle Thursday night during the sectional preliminaries. Hoevel was the only member of the host Patriots to advance to the championship race in both of her individual events. The sectional meet will continue Saturday at JCHS with diving preliminaries at 9 a.m. followed by swimming and diving finals at 1 p.m.

Host Jay County High School qualified a dozen swimmers through Thursday’s sectional preliminaries to swim in the consolation and championship finals Saturday, though the highest seed any earned was No. 4.
