Motion to dismiss will be argued in January
Special Judge Douglas Mawhorr issued a notice Friday scheduling a hearing for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, on a motion to dismiss Portland clerk-treasurer Lori Phillips’ lawsuit against Portland Police Chief Dustin Mock and investigator Jeff Hopkins.

The city is seeking $14,977, the full amount of the reimbursement agreement for training at Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. The agreement calls for officers to repay all or a portion of that total if they leave Portland Police Department within three years of completing training.

The woman who died in a fire on Christmas Day has been identified. Shirley M. Green, Portland, was found dead in her home at Oakwood Manufactured Home Community. Jay County Coroner’s Office received DNA results Tuesday from Indiana State Police Laboratory confirming Green’s identity, according to a press release.

Board of works filled open positions at meeting Tuesday
During a special meeting Tuesday, Portland Board of Works hired Jagg Nunez and Jonathan Cave as police officers for the city. It also terminated the employment of former wastewater treatment plant superintendent Brad Clayton.
