Tribe golfers handle Houston
Fort Recovery High School
SYDNEY, Ohio — The Wildcats were no match for the Indians.
Fort Recovery High School’s boys golf team had four golfers shoot in the 40s — all of them posted season-low scores — for a commanding 175-242 win Friday over Houston at Shelby Oaks Golf Club.
Derek Backs and Chase Bruns posted matching scores of 41 to earn match medalist honors.
Backs birdied the par-3 first before ending up five over par on the next two holes. He recovered to par the remaining six holes.
Bruns was even through the first three, including a birdie on the par-5 second, and made par on three of the final five holes.
Nick Litmer (46) finished one stroke ahead of teammate Jackson Hobbs, who also turned in his best round of the short season.
Litmer’s round included two pars and three bogeys, and Hobbs — who is trading football pads for golf clubs this season — had two bogeys and made three pars, including the first hole of his round.
Also competing for the Tribe (1-1) was Austin Faller, who posted a 51 in his first varsity match. Cole Wendel struggled to a 58 after shooting a 47 Thursday at Beechwood Golf Course in Arcanum.
