To the editor:
Once again, I would like to thank the many businesses and organizations of Jay County for their support of this year’s Miss Jay County Fair Queen Pageant.
Thank you to the Jay County Fair Board, Portland Breakfast Optimist Club, and the Miss Jay County Fair Queen Pageant committee. Tina Schwieterman, Miss Jay County and Miss Indiana State Fair Queen of 1986, served as our mentor and coach again this year.
The Commercial Review and WPGW gave the pageant great advertisement and coverage with support from Adams County Memorial Hospital. Thanks to Jay County Public Library for distributing and accepting applications.
Our thanks to the John Jay Center for Learning, Trinity United Methodist Church, Bearcreek Farms and Richard’s Restaurant for the use of facilities for various aspects of the pageant. Charlie Rohrer, Jack Good and staff provided the microphones for rehearsals and the sound equipment for the pageant.
Thank you to Portana Travel, Spencer Apartments, Summer Breeze Tanning, First Bank of Berne, Main Source Bank, B&G Pools, Reni’s Heaven Scent, The Flower Nook, and Cook’s Nursery for donations for the trophies, the crown, sashes, plants, jewelry and flowers.
We had approximately 100 county businesses who purchased ads for the pageant program. Carly Sanderson of Legacy Portraits and Dave Flowers of Sandflower Entertainment served as our official photographer and videographer. Walmart made a donation toward pageant supplies, and EP Graphics donated signs for the 2014 queen and court to be used in the parades. I would encourage the public to patronize our area businesses as they do so much to support the youth and organizations of our community.
A big thank you to the sponsors of our 12 talented and lovely candidates, and to the parents and grandparents for their support. Last year’s queen and court provided assistance and represented Jay County well in 2013 and ’14.
The stands were full at the great Jay County Fairgrounds on the night of the pageant, and we are grateful for the community support.
