Kegan Comer earned player of the week honors. And then he continued his scoring tear.
The 2013 Jay County High School graduate was named Crossroads League Player-of-the-Week for the final week of November and then poured in 25 points Dec. 2 in the NAIA Division II No. 9 University of St. Francis men’s basketball team’s 80-70 win over Taylor.
Comer’s effort, in which he shot 9-of-9 from the free-throw line, against the Trojans marked his fourth straight 20-point game and seventh of the season. He added five rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks.
During his award-winning week, he had 30 points, five rebounds and an assist in a 71-57 win for the Cougars over Mount Vernon Nazarene on Nov. 25.
The sophomore finished with eight points, two rebounds and a steal Saturday as USF suffered its first loss, 79-58 to top-ranked Indiana Wesleyan.
Comer is leading St. Francis in scoring at 18.9 points per game while shooting 58 percent from the field. He ranks 13th in NAIA Division II in free-throw percentage (89) and 15th in 3-point percentage (51).

Eme Miller
Jay County – 2012
Won a pair of events Saturday as the Defiance College women’s indoor track team defeated Bluffton 57-48.
Miller dominated both of her races, taking the 800-meter run by more than 15 seconds in 2 minutes, 36.41 seconds. She posted a time of 5:26.71 to take the mile run by more than 25 seconds.

Wade Gelhaus
Fort Recovery – 2013
Scored six points off the bench Saturday as the Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team improved to 2-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 69-66 win over Tiffin.
Gelhaus made both of his field-goal attempts and added a pair of free throws in the victory. He also had two rebounds and a block for the Cardinals (4-2).
The sophomore totaled seven points, five rebounds and a block Dec. 4 in a 73-69 victory over Ohio Dominican and had four points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist Nov. 25 in a 99-53 blowout of Great Lakes Christian.

 

Elijah Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2014
Scored a career-high nine points off the bench Dec. 4 as the University of Findlay men’s basketball team defeated Northwood, 70-64.
The freshman made two of his six 3-point attempts and was 3-of-4 from the free throw line, helping the Division II No. 21 Oilers (3-1, 1-0 GLIAC) to its first conference win of the season. He also grabbed one rebound.
Saturday, Kahlig scored seven points in the Oilers’ 70-62 loss to Lake Superior State. He was 2-of-5 from the field and made both of his attempts from the charity stripe.

Neal Fennig
Jay County – 2011
Picked up a top-10 finish for the Ball State University men’s swim team as it finished third out of five teams at the Eastern Michigan University Invitational that concluded Saturday.
Fennig tied for ninth place in the 200-yard freestyle, posting an identical time —1 minute, 45.24 seconds — to that of sophomore teammate Andrew Carlson. He was also 14th in the 100 freestyle in 47.99 and 17th in the 500 freestyle in 4:58.05.
The senior teamed with Andy Lamb, Joe Morris and Carlson for a time of 7:00.25 to place fourth in the 800 freestyle relay.

Erin Hunt
Jay County – 2011
Helped the Bethel College women’s basketball team to an 84-80 victory Saturday over Spring Arbor.
Hunt started and made her only field goal attempt to finish with two points. She had three assists, one steal and one rebound.
The senior had a rebound and an assist Dec. 3 in an 83-65 loss to Goshen and totaled five points, three assists, three rebounds and a steal Nov. 25 in a 74-49 loss to NAIA Division II No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan.
