2004 highway projects set (11/17/03)
Commissioners receive list from INDOT
The summer of 2004 is shaping up to be a busy one in terms of road projects on state highways in Jay County.
Jay County Commissioners this morning reviewed a list of projects scheduled over the next 11 years by the Indiana Department of Transportation.
And the list of 2004 projects includes the resurfacing of U.S. 27 from Portland to just north of Deerfield, the repaving of East Water Street (U.S. 26) in Portland from Meridian Street to the Salamonie River bridge, and the resurfacing of U.S. 27 from Redkey (Ind. 1) to Meridian Street (U.S. 27) in Portland.
Also tabbed for next summer are a major intersection widening and improvement at Ind. 1 and Ind. 67 in Redkey, and a bridge rehabilitation on Ind. 1 just south of Balbec.
Other projects on INDOT’s future schedule include the addition of a center turn lane for Ind. 67 from just southwest of Jay County High School to Meridian Street in Portland (2006), and the reconstruction (widening) of Ind. 26 from the Jay-Blackford county line to Ind. 67 (2007 and 2008).
Also this morning, Commissioners Mike Leonhard, Gary Theurer and Milo Miller Jr. voted to re-zone a parcel in Wabash Township as commercial to allow for the construction of a model log home.
The request from Steve and Vicki Reitz was for a three-acre parcel at 7518 East Ind. 67, just east of the Trinity Catholic Church on the north side of the highway.
The zoning change had been recommended last week by the Jay County Planning Commission.[[In-content Ad]]
