9/11 flag display set at high school (09/07/06)
In observance of the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, members of the Jay County High School Student Council will be placing flags in the front lawn at the Jay County High School.
Nearly 3,000 flags, donated by the Portland American Legion, will be placed in the shape of 9/11 to honor each victim of the attacks in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania, said Scott Walker, treasurer of the student council.
Lucas Smith, president of the student council, said the flag display will be visible all next week.
Additionally, students will hold a memorial service at 9 a.m. Monday in the high school gymnasium. The Jay County High School band will play while names of the victims are displayed in a video program produced by the high school's Jay Today TV studio. The public is invited to Monday's program and to view the memorial flag display.[[In-content Ad]]
