A chance for recognition (02/25/2009)
Editorial
It's a common refrain.
High school athletes get plenty of attention, but what about those kids who are great students and are active volunteering in their community? When do they get some recognition?
The answer is: Now.
For the past several years, The Commercial Review has partnered with Embarq, the telephone company that serves most of Jay County, to sponsor the Leaders of Tomorrow program.
It's a great way to bring recognition to kids, athletes included, who are demonstrating by their actions real leadership characteristics. We're talking about students who are deeply involved in organizations as diverse as 4-H and Arts Place, everything from volunteering at the hospital to leading a church youth group.
Each year, young people are nominated and the nominees are spotlighted in a special newspaper supplement. The winner from our district will compete with winners from other Embarq districts, earning not only recognition but cash awards for their schools.
Nomination is easy and it's free. The nomination forms are available at The Commercial Review and at our sister paper, The Dunkirk News and Sun. They're also available at Jay County High School.
So, here's your chance. We've heard that common refrain for years; now it's time to do something about it.
The deadline for nominations is Feb. 20. - J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
