A class act
Editorial
Jim Zimmerman didn’t have to appear before the Jay School Board on Monday.
But he did anyway.
About a month back, Zimmerman, a Jay County Commissioner, ap-peared before the board to praise a young man who is a perennial standout in Optimist Club academic contests and to mildly upbraid the school corporation for not providing proper recognition.
It was a sincere effort to correct what he believed to be a slight.
Trouble is, the student doesn’t attend Jay Schools. While he could in the future, at the moment he’s being home-schooled.
So any shots at the board or the administration on this particular subject were misguided.
On Monday, Zimmerman appeared back before the board to set the record straight and offer his apologies if he had come across as snide in his earlier comments.
He didn’t have to do that. But he did it anyway.
“It’s the way I was raised,” Zimmerman said on Monday.
Pretty class behavior is our verdict, and we suspect that the student Jim was championing — Noah Claycomb — is proud to have someone like Zimmerman in his corner. — J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
