Santa may call the North Pole home.
But from now on, his home away from home is in Jay County.
Specifically, it’s a new house on East Main Street in Portland which was officially opened Saturday night following the Winterfest Parade of Lights.
Thanks to the generosity of the Goodrich Family Foundation, the leadership of the Jay County Chamber of Commerce, and hard work by students in the Jay County High School building trades program, a new Santa House, where the jolly old elf can visit with area children, has been created.
It’s truly a first-class piece of work, clever in its design and a pleasing addition to the downtown landscape. The students and teachers involved outdid themselves when it comes to the craftsmanship and dedication to doing the job right.
We’re sure Santa likes his new digs.
In fact, the guy in the red suit stuck his head out Saturday night booming, “Santa is in the house!”
What a great way to kick off the holiday season.
Many thanks to everyone involved. — J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
