A salute to firefighters (9/11/03)

By To the editor:-

A Firefighter

Sept. 11, 2001. “Oh my God,” I believe were the words. “Oh my God. A plane went through the building. Run! Run!”

But some didn’t run they stood right there helping this one helping that one a firefighter with his life to spare.

Screams and shouts heard all around ... where’s the firefighter? Nowhere to be found.

Which one was it? What was his I.D. number? What was his name? He was a firefighter but ... They are all dressed the same.

They go the extra mile to save other’s lives and in return they leave behind their children and their wives.

He goes into burning buildings when they’re falling on fire, he is strong and wise, he doesn’t look back, will he ever tire?

He is kind he is gentle, when telling the facts he keeps it simple.

Rescuing people against the fire he fights he’s doing his duty and he is doing it right.

He holds his head on his shoulders and he holds it high, every so often he lets out a weakened sigh.

Taking everything so serious not any time for games, he is so often called a hero, a firefighter is his name.

So to each and every one of you, you have my respect, the “Attack on America,” all of us it will affect.

Many were lost in the rubble and debris, you are still there knowing what you may find, what you may see.

Some were your friends your station family. It is a bond made by firefighters that isn’t hard to see.

I saw a picture of a flag going up by firefighters’ hands, and all the while our Nation sings how proud and United we stand.

To all those who lost their lives you are angels in our midnight skies. So you rest high on those pearly gates.

You went to heaven heroes and you’ll be remembered September 11 every year to the date. ©2003

We, the teachers of the South Adams Classroom Teachers Association, would like the public to know that we support our association’s leadership in their endeavors to make South Adams a better school system by the endless work that they have done and will continue to do in the negotiation process.

We believe in their honesty and integrity in dealing with the situations that have come their way. We will continue to support them in any way we can to make the South Adams School Corporation the very best for our students.

Sharing treasures

To the editor:

This week, AmeriCare/Heritage Commons joins thousands of assisted living facilities across the nation in celebration of National Assisted Living Week (Sept. 7-13). Under the celebratory them, Sharing Life’s Treasures, our staff, residents and families will focus on sharing memories and conveying our dreams still pursued. The National Assisted Living Week observance reminds us that time spent sharing our treasures with others enhances life’s pathway.

On behalf of our residents, I encourage readers to visit friends and loved ones and to volunteer with us as often as possible.

Our residents are active, caring members of the community and seek to share exciting new adventures. From coordinating a book club or a children’s letter-writing campaign to offering weekly visits or special lectures or classes, volunteers add great depth to our residents’ lives.

National Assisted Living Week is a time to highlight the vital role assisted living plays in helping our community’s elderly live as independently as possible while enjoying a meaningful quality of life. Let it also be the time to share your treasures with us.

Please call me at (260) 726-3577 to discuss volunteer opportunities.

Sincerely,

Deb Tipton, executive

director, AmeriCare

Heritage Commons
