ACAC keeping Raiders

In the continuing game of conference musical chairs, the Raiders will keep their seat for at least one more year.
The Allen County Athletic Conference athletics directors voted Friday to keep Southern Wells as a probationary member for the 2013-14 school year. The Raiders’ status will be up for review again next spring.
Southern Wells has been a probationary member for the last three years, since deciding after the 2009-10 school year that it no longer wanted to participate in the conference in football.
“We’re thankful for the opportunity to have another year of study with the new membership to determine of the ACAC is the best fit for Southern Wells,” said SWHS principal Chad Yencer.
The decision to keep Southern Wells comes in a time of conference transition in Indiana.
The Jay School Board voted in April to accept an invitation to join the ACAC while the Northeast Hoosier Conference announced it would disband. On Thursday, Garrett informed Allen County Athletic Conference members via email that it plans to leave the group to rejoin the Northeast Corner Conference.
There has also been widespread talk that Leo could leave the ACAC to join a conference with six of the former NHC schools.
The Allen County Athletic Conference is currently an eight-team league made up of South Adams, Southern Wells, Adams Central, Bluffton, Heritage, Woodlan, Leo and Garrett. JCHS will join the league for the 2014-15 school year, and Garrett’s departure is pending approval from its school board.
“Southern Wells is a good member of our conference, other than the fact that obviously don’t play a full football schedule right now,” said South Adams AD Jason Arnold. “When you look at the other sports, they fit into our conference pretty well.”[[In-content Ad]]
