Allow Eads to return
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
My children attend General Shanks elementary school and I sometime volunteer in the classrooms. I am very upset that the school administration and school board have not allowed Mr. Eads to come back to his principal position. I have personally witnessed the positive interactions he had with the children and how they respond to him in return. Mr. Eads would greet the kids (and parents) outside the school each day and give them a "high five" as they walked through the door. He helped create a positive and productive environment at the school. My children enjoyed and respected him a great deal and felt very comfortable talking with him regarding any issues or just to tell him a joke. I believe that the decision to remove him from the school has created confusion and some increased stress among many of the kids at General Shanks (as well as some of the parents).
I sent emails to all the school board members and to Mr. Long in support of Mr. Eads.
I received ONE return email from a school board member thanking me for my letter but that the current situation could not be discussed because of the investigation.
To that one board member, I thank you for at least reading my email and taking the time to acknowledge it.
I am starting to wonder exactly what is happening within our school administration. At this point in time there are many other surrounding school districts that seem much more appealing for my children to attend. What kind of message is the administration and school system trying to teach the kids?
Character counts, but only when it's administratively conve-nient, or when there's not a personal agenda at stake?

To the editor:
This city and county has gone to ruins. People would rather let individuals on boards who are absolute morons spend their hard earned money these days. What's more shocking is they get voted back in many times.
Everything is being spent on government-controlled facilities that have no future money-making benefit for our community.
Wanting to spend money on a new pool that was going to close up a few years ago is one example. Wanting an extension on the runway that sees one regular jet land from Tyson is another example. Expect more taxes everybody.
This county needs to change its direction. There are many individuals that believe they have an elite status by being on the many boards we have in this county and vote like it also.
This county really needs to vote in some new blood. It's the only way to eliminate the "buddy-buddy" system that is clogging the fountain of prosperity. If we don't, we will continue to watch our businesses slip away.
When all that happens though, at least we will have a nice park to spend all of our time on unemployment at. Maybe at a new pool too.

To the editor:
As Memorial Day 2010 approaches, I felt compelled to point out the following to those who may not be aware of recent developments in Afghanistan. It would appear that the Karzai-led government has been up to some rather strange shenanigans, and with some dubious characters. Mr. Karzai has recently invited Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Kabul. He was also recently quoted as declaring, "If the international community pressures me more, I swear that I am going to join the Taliban."
Officials in Washington are a bit more tolerant of this shift that you may be comfortable with. Many in the current administration from Obama on down, have admitted that the Taliban will eventually have to be incorporated into a reconfigured government in Kabul.
Let that one sink in for a minute.
We have sacrificed a few thousand of our uniformed soldiers in the quagmire of Afghanistan, including one very fine young man from right here at home in Jay County.
The very reason we went there in the first place, in the fall of 2001 was specifically to oust the Taliban and its repressive regime.
If I was submitting this in the mid 1940's, our troops would have been involved fighting WWII for a shorter amount of time, than what we have currently been involved in country in Afghanistan.
To even consider the Taliban being allowed to the table in the formation of a new government in Afghanistan, as we depart, would be a disservice to everyone of those lost there and to all the men and women that we memorialize on Memorial Day in ceremonies all across our great land. Sincerely,
