America must repent of sin (04/01/06)

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

I have been pastoring in this community for 22 years and for the last several years I have been privileged to be president of the Jay County Ministerial Association, a group of wonderful pastors that pray together and work together to get the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ out to our community. I weep and pray for this town and America, so what I am about to say I say with tears.

Thus the Lord God said, in Joel, “Blow the trumpet in Zion and sound an alarm in my holy mountain, let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the Lord cometh for it is nigh at hand, a day of darkness and gloominess.” Who will hear and accept the sound of this trumpet blast? I do not know, for America is hard-hearted and is drowning in self-deception, but I proceed with these warnings because God called me to be a watchman as he has called every pastor to do.

America is asleep in a burning house, and playing in a street of destruction on the brink of the abyss of God’s judgment. We are slaughtering our unborn. The womb has become a tomb and their blood pollutes our land as their collective cry beseeches God for justice. This sin alone is bringing judgment on this land.

We have become a nation of fornicators and adulterers that God said he will judge (Hebrews 13:4). We are going beyond Sodom’s sin by wanting same-sex marriage pushed into both public policy and holy matrimony; we are already seeing apostate churches and ministers approving and performing such marriages, which is another sign that when God begins to judge a nation, he gives cowardly preachers, with their timid and accommodating attitude that we are seeing in many churches and pulpits. They refuse to preach down into this generation, stating the negative things that are necessary.

Like Jeremiah, we must speak of the judgment of the individual, men great and small, of the church, the state and the culture, for we have known the truth of God and have turned away from him. God exists. He is Holy and we must know that there will be a judgment.

Look at the momentum that is building for homosexual-praising curriculum and policies in public schools; look at the denigration the Boy Scouts are receiving for not permitting homosexual scout leaders. America has sinned against the greatest light. Other nations are just as sinful, but none are flooded with gospel light as ours. God is going to judge America and I say it has already begun, for its violence, backsliding, its murdering of millions of babies, its flaunting of homosexuality and sadomasochism, corruption, its rampant divorce and adultery, its lewd pornography, it’s child molestations, its luke-warmness toward Jesus Christ.

Already this nation is being shaken by warnings from God: Droughts, hurricanes, natural disasters, AIDS, children shooting children in schools, corporate greed and corruption, political mudslinging. Judgment is at the door. We have but a short time to repent and turn back to God. It will soon all be over as judgment claims its day.

Jesus said in Matthew 24:37-39, “But as the days of Noah were, so also will be the coming of the Son of Man be, for as in the days before the flood, they were eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day of Noah entered the Ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will be the coming of the Son of Man.”

Jesus Christ is coming back soon. His judgment is sure. America needs to repent. The church needs to repent, and yes, maybe you who is reading this letter. What do I do, you say? Jesus said, “Ye must be born again, to see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). God loves this nation, He loves His church and He loves you. Just say this prayer: “Jesus forgive me of my sins and come into my life. I receive you as my savior.” I promise you, He will come and receive you as His child.
