Amphitheatre a winner
Editorial
On a perfect summer evening only a handful of days after the stage disaster at the Indiana State Fair, it was impossible not to admire the thought and planning — as well as the bricks and mortar — that created the amphitheatre at Hudson Family Park.
It’s hard to imagine a more charming venue for a concert.
(At one point during Sunday’s performance by Souled Out, a great blue heron flew in and perched high in a tree above the Salamonie River to check out what was happening.)
There are, to be sure, some details to be worked out.
Finding the right balance between free concerts and those involving an admission charge will take some time. And the grassy terraces will look more inviting by next summer.
But the amphitheatre itself is a winner.
If you haven’t yet had a chance to enjoy it, the city of Portland will be hosting a free concert on Sunday, Sept. 4, when the Wright Brothers will perform.
Mark your calendar. You’ll be glad you did.
And watch for that great blue heron. He may just come back for an encore. — J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
