Angel Tree project is nearing
Letters to the editor
To the editor: I hope you have been waiting for this letter in anticipation of the Angel Tree project getting underway. We are updating our applications and hopefully by Oct. 1 they will once again be in all the Jay County elementary schools and also available at the middle schools and high school, along with other locations in the county.
This year we once again call on you. This project cannot survive without your help. The Angel Tree project is solely run on donations from people like you. Last year we were able to help 850 kids with gifts and food for their families. Plus we gave out more than 80 food boxes for the elderly in our community. We feel the need is going to be even bigger this year. Hopefully we can help everyone who applies.
Now comes the part you are waiting for. If you can help this year we would greatly appreciate it. There are many ways you can do so.
You can adopt an angel off our Angel Trees at Wal-Mart, Dollar General and First Merchants Bank in Portland after Nov. 12.
You can also adopt a family (list available at the Wayne Township Trustee's office on West Main Street) or make a donation to Angel Tree Project, P.O. Box 515, Portland, IN, 47371. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I am sure you have questions, so please feel free to call me, Kay Strausburg, at (260) 726-2148; Cathy Smith (260) 726-8268; or Denise Brewster (260) 726-4670. Thank you for reading this, and I hope we will be hearing from you soon.
In the spirit of giving.
Kay Strausburg, chairperson,
Angel Tree Project
Thanks
To the editor:
The Cincinnatus League of Portland thanks all of you who visited our Frostee booth during the Vintage Motorbike Show, the Jay County Fair and the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Show this summer at the Jay County Fairgrounds.
Our only means of raising funds is through the sale of our ice cream frostees. Without your purchases we would not be able to donate funds to worthy causes here in Jay County.
Because of you we are able to help keep organizations who depend on donations alive and well.
Some of the causes we contribute to are: Hudson Family Park, Jay County Historical Society, Jay County Hospital, John Jay Center for Learning, The Portland Foundation Cincinnatus Fund, Senior Recognition program during Jay County Fair, Jay County Public Library, Jay Community Center, Arts in the Parks/Arts Place, Pregnancy Care Center, WinterFest, Jay-Randolph Developmental Services and Jay County Retirement Center, just to name a few.
We would love to have you as a guest at one of our noon luncheon meetings.
Contact me at (260) 726-4305 or (260) 726-7523.
Come join the fun.
