'Angels' help after crash

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
My life has held some major surprise for me the last couple of years, and that is perhaps an understatement to say the least.
On Oct. 16, a beautiful fall day, I was involved in an auto accident. Thank goodness for seat belts and air bags. My car was totaled, but more than that my resolve was shattered for a few hours. After the impact my initial response was to get out of my car fast. What I thought was smoke was actually powder from the air bag deployment. But what did I know? I had never been in an accident before. Two very nice people came to my aid. They asked me several questions before they could un-jam my passenger door and get me out. Someone got me a chair to sit on.
My first kind lady angel asked me more questions like was I sure what day it was and my health history, all the while holding my head and neck in place until JEMS got there. The other male angel, who got my door open, asked whom he could call for me. Using my cell phone, he found the number of my sister-in-law, who was waiting patiently just two blocks away for me to pick her up. She heard the stuck horn, but had no idea it was coming from her ride. He also called my daughter, told her I was OK, and where I was so she could come to the scene.
I know they told me their first names when I asked, but I managed to forget those by the time JEMS took me from the scene. But I have come to learn, through the help of my niece, Kris Woodbury, that my angels were Ranaé Epler and Brody Ruble, who were in the neighborhood for a wedding. They heard the crash and came out immediately to see if there was anything they could do to help.
Well, help you did, Renaé and Brody. I am sure they looked at my white hair as they approached the car and wondered just exactly what they were getting themselves in for. But, alas, they found a pretty feisty 62-year-old. Shook as I was, being my first wreck and all, they were calming.
Thank you Ranaé and Brody from the bottom of my heart. Pay it forward comes to mind and I hope I get the opportunity sometime to do just that.
