FORT RECOVERY — Kylie Huelsman wants her team to battle every opponent, and do the little things that make the difference between winning and losing close matches.
The Indians did the first. They’re still working on the second.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team stayed close most of the way in its season opener, but fell to the Anna Rockets 25-21, 25-15, 25-22.
“I think we did a lot of good things,” said Huelsman. “There were a few times in every game where we just let our mistakes get the better of us.
“The first game and  third game especially, we were only down a couple points. Those points were the ones that we gave them.”
While the Tribe struggled in giving up a 10-3 run to end the second game, it was in position to win both the first and third.
FRHS had a three-point lead early and trailed just 21-20 late in the first game. But the Rockets took four of the next five points and won on an ace from senior Summer McCracken.
Again in the third game Fort Recovery had an early lead, traded the advantage back and forth and then used a 5-1 run to tie the score at 22 with the match on the line. However, Anna came through in the clutch again with junior Megan Fogt ripping off back-to-back kills to end the match.

“I thought they did very well for a first match of the season,” said AHS coach Kelli Barhorst of her Rockets. “I think it could have went either way. Fort Recovery fought and so did we, and we came out on top.”
Sophomore setter Cassidy Rammel finished with eight assists, five service points and four kills to lead Fort Recovery. She picked up two of those service points on back-to-back aces late in the third game.
“It is a bullet, that’s for sure,” said Huelsman of Rammel’s jump serve. “It’s just barely over that net and right at that end line. It hits that line every time.”
Amy Link had four digs and four blocks, Kelsey Fiely totaled four kills and three service points and Emily Link notched eight service points. Sierra Pugh finished with seven assists and four digs.

Junior varsity
The Indians played a pair of close games only to come up short in a 25-23, 26-24 loss to Anna.
Both games were tied at 23 and Fort Recovery even pushed to a 24-23 lead in the second, but the Tribe fell short both times.
Rachel Pugh paced FRHS with nine digs, seven assists and five service points. Kirsten Jutte had seven digs, six assists, three service points and three kills.[[In-content Ad]]
