Area woman thanks helpers (04/20/06)
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
I have been slow in doing this, but I just want to take the time to thank the good people that have taken the time to help me.
On Nov. 11 my friend and I went to the girls basketball game against Fort Wayne Southside and it stormed and the game was called off when the lights went off. There was a nice young man who went to the car to get an umbrella (his mother told us to wait). This young man then walked us to the car. Thank you Stephen Sain.
Then I went to the semi-state game and was having a hard time making the steps and some young man jumped up from his seat and helped me to my seat. I don’t know his name, but I want to thank him.
Also a great big thank you not only to them but also to Jack and Marilyn Bentz, their family and Ruth Kemp for all their help and allowing me to go with them and for all their help.
We do have a lot of good people in the world. We only hear about the bad ones.
I also would like to thank our ball teams and all the coaches for a job well done.
Wishing the best for all of them.

Project thanks
To the editor:
The third grade teachers and students at East Elementary want to thank Sharlette Cole of Sharlette’s Fudgery for her support of our Care and Share project.
Our candy sale was successful and The Jay County Historical Society will use our profits. Sharlette’s hard work and generosity is typical of the merchants in Portland.

Vote Paul
To the editor:
In February I spent a day at the Indiana Legislature as a guest of Allen Paul. Much of my time was spent observing committees which were reviewing bills.
I learned that committee chairmen have the power to remove members of they do not vote to approve bills. Important votes are on the floor of the Senate, not in committee.
Senator Paul voted as the majority of his constituents requested in regard to Daylight Saving Time and Major Moves.
I am disappointed in Gov. Mitch Daniels’ high-handed tactics. Senator Paul voted his conscience, not party pressures. Let’s keep a good Senator.
