Assessment bids rejected by county (08/12/2008)
Jay County Commissioners

Red tape is responsible for the rejection of bids for new construction assessment by the assessor's office.
Three bids for assessment of new construction in Jay County were rejected by the Jay County Commissioners because they were bid on an old form not compliant with new Department of Local Government Finance requirements.
"Basically it comes down to the fact that the DLGF now requires bids to be on their model contract, and none of the vendors did it on the model contract," said Jay County Assessor Terry LeMaster, "Some of the vendors still don't like the verbiage."
LeMaster said that there was nothing wrong with the bids themselves, just that they weren't on the proper document.
"Now that Indianapolis is calling more of the shots, we've got to play to their rules," he added.
"If they say it's got to be on their form, it's got to be on their form."
The project will be re-bid, a process that will take another couple weeks to call for bids before opening them. LeMaster said, however, that it's "not a big hurdle to jump."
In other business Monday afternoon, the commissioners:
•Approved allowing Embarq to bury cable in the county road right-of-way along county road 500 West, north of Ind. 26 for 102 feet on the west side of the road.
•Signed documents presented by LifeStream representative Judi Ritter for a grant. The commissioners also informed her the county wouldn't be able to offer gas for the InterUrban transit system from the county fuel pumps.
•Made Community Corrections purchasing agent to buy a radio for its new vehicle at a cost of $913.55. The funds for the radio will come from collected user fees in the department.
•Looked at road work being done on county road 400 North. Commissioners Milo Miller Jr. and Gary Theurer went to survey work being done by the county highway department. The work crews were putting down a new sealer in an attempt to keep loose stone on the road from being flung into the air by vehicles driving on the road.[[In-content Ad]]
