Atkinson leads Spartans over Plattsburgh

Collegiate Check-up

Josh Atkinson's first start of the season could not have gone much better.

The 2006 Jay County High School graduate tossed eight shutout innings March 4 to lead the Manchester College baseball team to a 6-1 victory over Plattsburgh.

Atkinson gave up just six hits and two walks in his eight innings of work. All of the hits against him were singles, and he allowed just one base runner past second base.

The senior finished with six strikeouts.

Josh Ludy

Jay County - 2008

Drove in a pair of runs in helping the Baylor University baseball team to a 12-4 victory Tuesday over Louisiana Tech.

Ludy entered the game as a pinch hitter with two outs in the sixth inning.

He ripped a double to center field to bring teammates Gregg Gilme and Chris Slater around to score, giving the Bears a 10-4 lead.

Daniel Bollenbacher

South Adams - 2008

Improved to 2-0 Saturday as he shut down Young Harris College to allow the Wabash Valley College baseball team to rally for a 7-6 victory.

Bollenbacher entered the game with his Warriors trailing 6-3 and blanked the Mountain Lions in 5 1/3 innings of relief. He struck out seven batters while giving up just a single hit.

In five games this year, Bollenbacher is 2-0 with a 0.73 ERA. He has struck out 15 batters and given up just four hits in 12 1/3 innings.

Amber Edmundson

Jay County - 2008

Scored a run for the Ancilla College softball team, which opened its season with a couple of losses to the Indiana Institute of Technology's junior varsity team.

With the Chargers trailing 5-0 in the second game of the double-header, Edmundson reached base on an error in the third inning. She scored on a Demi Schrader double as Ancilla pulled to within 5-2 before falling 8-6.[[In-content Ad]]
