Atkinson picks up fifth win

Josh Atkinson survived five unearned runs to pick up his fifth win of the season for the Manchester College baseball team. The 2006 Jay County High School graduate is now 5-1 after defeating Rose-Hulman 9-8.
Atkinson tossed 6 1/3 innings in the April 24 victory allowing eight runs - three earned - on nine hits and five walks.
He struck out three batters.
He also took the loss Tuesday, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks in one inning of on the mound in a 10-9 loss to Bluffton.
Amber Edmundson
Jay County - 2008
Pitched the Ancilla College softball team to a 12-2 victory Tuesday over Glen Oaks.
Edmundson struck out four batters in picking up her sixth win of the season. Both runs against her - one each in the first and second innings - were unearned.
Amanda Johnson
Jay County - 2008
Turned in a fourth-place finish for the Indiana Wesleyan University women's track team April 24 at the Taylor Outdoor Invitational.
Johnson finished just off the winning pace in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 1.84 seconds. She was less than two seconds behind first-place teammate Cassidy Wagner, who won in 1:00.02.
The sophomore also placed eighth in the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches.
Jana Beitler
South Adams - 2009
Helped the Goshen College softball team to a 2-0 victory Tuesday over Calvin.
Beitler helped key the Maple Leafs two-run fourth inning when she reached base on an error after laying down a sacrifice bunt. She went on to add a single in the sixth inning.
The freshman shortstop also went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI April 23 as Goshen lost 5-4 to Purdue-North Central. She had a hit and a run against Taylor April 23, and scored a run in the second game of a double-header against Taylor April 24.
Anne Lehman
South Adams - 2008
Recorded a hit April 24 during the Goshen softball team's 3-1 loss to Taylor.
Lehman singled during the fifth inning, but was stranded on second base.
Brandon Reynard
Jay County - 2009
Was part of a third-place relay finish for the Ivy Tech men's track team April 24 at the Hillsdale College "GINA" Relays.
Reynard joined David Army, Russell Dill and Lucien Harris in placing third in the 4x400-meter relay in 3 minutes, 16.81 seconds, just 0.72 seconds off the winning pace set by Cornerstone. He finished seventh in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.24.
He was also 22nd in the 100 dash in 11.51.
Josh Ludy
Jay County - 2008
Helped the Baylor University baseball team to a 14-4 victory Wednesday over TCU.
Ludy recorded a pinch-hit single in place of catcher Gregg Glime. He is hitting .314 for the season.
Megan Adams
Jay County - 2008
Competed for the Huntington University women's tennis team April 24 in a 9-0 loss to Cedarville.
Adams suffered a 6-0, 6-1 defeat at No. 5 singles, and lost 8-0 as she teamed with fellow Forester Joni Holsem at No. 3 doubles.
Dexter Shreve
Jay County - 2009
Took part in the discus competition for the Kent State University men's track team April 24 at the Ashland University Alumni Open.
Shreve turned in a toss of 86 feet, 3 inches to place 37th in the discus.
Adam Gray
Jay County - 2009
Competed for the Valparaiso University men's golf team at the Horizon League Championship at Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington, Kent.
Gray turned in his best effort with a final-round 76 to complete the 54-hole tournament at 242. He finished in 39th place for the Crusaders, who were last in the eight-team field two strokes behind Loyola.[[In-content Ad]]
