Auction thank yous

Editor's Mailbag

By To the editor:-

On Saturday, Dec. 6, the Jay Community Center, home of the Boys and Girls Club, held a benefit auction. A total of 327 ornaments were beautifully decorated and submitted for this auction, with all proceeds to benefit the new building for the community center.

I would like to thank the following for donating the prizes and door prizes: Portland Area Chamber of Commerce, Moser Engineering, Bandido’s, Arby’s, Pizza Hut, Strohl Appliance and Electronics, Tyson Mexican Original and Wal-Mart.

I would also like to thank Betty Stone, Missy Puterbaugh and Alice Strohl for all their help in putting together this auction. Thank you also to Rob Weaver of WPGW and Jack Ronald of The Commercial Review for the wonderful coverage of this event. Thank you to JCC board members Steve Arnold, Ned Stucky, Brian Hutchison, Paul Minnich and Dave Teeter for helping to set up tables for the auction. Thanks to Alice Strohl and Phyllis Gillespie for serving up the old-fashioned Spanish dogs.

A special thank you to Gary and Doug Loy of Ernie Loy Auctioneering for donating their auction services and to Annie Florence for clerking.

And a very special thank you to everyone who attended the auction and to those who purchased these special one-of-a-kind ornaments.

Jean Stucky submitted a beautifully hand-painted glass ornament which was purchased by Kathleen Galbraith for $350. More than $3,000 was raised for the building fund. Anyone still wishing to donate to the Jay Community Center building fund may do so by contacting the community center at (260) 726-6477.

Thank you again to everyone who made this first auction a huge success.

See you next year.

Debi Gillespie
