Batboy had blast with Rockets (8/5/05)
Letters to the Editor
By To the editor:-
A special thanks to Pete Byrum, his family, Randy Miller and the Portland Rockets.
They gave my grandson, Cody Davis, the opportunity to be bat boy for the Rockets at the American Amateur Baseball Congress state tournament last weekend.
It gave him the opportunity to see what it’s like to play with the big guys. He loved it. It was really nice to see the big guys care so much about a little guy. Cody is 7-years-old.
They took him in and treated him just like one of the team. They were great. Couldn’t ask for a better group of guys. More kids should get this opportunity. It really is an ego boost. They learn a lot by being involved.
After all, that’s what makes little kids grow up to play ball like the big guys.
I’m just sure Cody will keep playing ball and who knows, maybe he will end up being a Rockets player for Randy someday. That would be great.
Thanks to everyone at Runkle-Miller Field for making Cody’s experience a very memorable one. He even got some souvenirs to help him remember this. I’m sure it is etched in his mind forever. It’s something he will never forget and I’m sure it will help him grow.
All kids need to feel special and this is a great way to do that. Big thanks from Cody, too.
Thanks again.
