Be prepared for wintry days
Editorial
Don’t let the thermometer fool you.
There’s plenty of winter ahead.
The last time it was this warm on New Year’s Eve, we were treated to the worst ice storm in local history. So let the calendar rather than the thermometer be your guide.
If you haven’t already, begin to stock your pantry with essentials that could get you through an emergency that could last several days. That’s easier said than done in these challenging times, but it’s still the best course of action.
If you rely on prescription medications, make sure they are on hand. If the baby uses disposable diapers, buy an extra package and set it aside for those times when the weather won’t let you get to the store.
Know your neighbors and their needs, and keep in touch with them when winter makes its inevitable descent on us.
Get the snow shovel out of the garage and put it someplace handy. And toss a blanket in your trunk if you’re going to be out on the road.
In other words, think and plan ahead. Emergency workers and the American Red Cross remind us that while planning can’t prevent a blizzard or an ice storm or some other weather disaster, it can make the difference between an inconvenience and a crisis.
