Be well-informed and choose life
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
My take on the pro-life side of life follows. And Samm Quinn’s take on the pro-choice side was in the Jan. 25 edition of The Commercial Review.
First of all, I am so sorry Samm had such a bad experience in her AP government class during high school. This is just one example showing how hurtful words stay with us through life. Ideally a teacher should allow everyone to share his or her thoughts during a debate, pro and con.
A woman who chooses an abortion is neither a “slut” nor a “whore”, she is a human being who made a choice that has lasting results, including the death of a child. Ignorant people, such that caused grief to Samm in high school, will always be with us during life, no matter where we travel and how old we get.
It really doesn’t matter if they are rich, poor, educated, young, old, conservative, liberal or indifferent.
As a woman who values life, in the womb, on a hospital bed or dying from old age, I feel all life is precious, no exceptions.
Working many years with women of all ages, I find the better-informed person, one who knows all of her choices, can produce an outcome that is best for all individuals concerned.
Samm mentioned adoption, one wonderful way to continue a life.
Another source of help is offered at a local crisis pregnancy help center. These centers are located across the United States and worldwide. Many women find that a non-judgmental compassionate and confidential center will sincerely try to help them through a very difficult time in their life.
Unfortunately, being raped or hurt by incest is a horrible way to become pregnant. If abortion follows these painful experiences, we now have two human beings who have been harmed, mother and her baby, each having their own DNA and their one body, one big and one small.
Many women have the memory of the rape and the memory of losing a baby to abortion. Life after an abortion can be a painful and regretful decision, staying with the woman and her family for life.
Since 1973, the United States has lost an estimated 56 million citizens in our great country because of abortion being legalized by Roe v. Wade. The estimated 1.2 million abortions per year in the United States is a higher total than all deaths during the wars in American history from 1775 through 2013 combined according to Right to Life of Michigan.
Offering and teaching about contraception will not solve this difficult, life-altering decision. It only adds to the sense of false security and the possibility of many medical situations.
Please encourage those you care about to search for truthful, proper and medically-correct information on these serious topics. The more informed you and your loved ones become, the better choices you can make.
Love and protect all. Choose life.
