BEAM subdivision reviewed (4/8/05)

By By Rachelle Haughn-

The secondary plat for a proposed subdivision in Portland will be forwarded to the Portland City Council for consideration of final approval Thursday evening by the Portland Planning Commission.

Imel Addition Section II, a six-lot subdivision, would be located at the northeast corner of Main and Charles streets on the west side of Portland.

BEAM LLC of Portland wants to use the approximately four acres to create four lots with entrances from West Main Street and two lots with entrances from Charles Street.

Before commission members voted, member Bob Loucks asked a representative of Bonar Group, the engineering firm working on the project, if the subdivision would have sidewalks.

Chris Hoffman of Bonar Group said there would be no sidewalks for the subdivision.

City attorney Bill Hinkle said the Portland zoning ordinance requires sidewalks to be part of subdivisions.

The commission recommended the council approve the development, as long as it included sidewalks on Main and Charles streets, bordering the subdivision.

Before voting, commission president Vicki Tague asked what changes had been made to the primary plat for the subdivision.

Jay/ Portland Building and Planning administrator Bill Milligan said a new sewer line would have to be built and connected to an existing storm sewer along Main Street. He said the developers had originally hoped to use a storm sewer line that runs through property located east of the subdivision. But the line stopped just short of where the development would be built.

Also Thursday, Milligan gave commission members a copy of the city’s revised zoning ordinance. Commission members will review the suggested changes to the ordinance and discuss them at the next meeting.[[In-content Ad]]
