Beat the heat, enjoy the fair (07/25/05)
Jay County has a great week ahead of it.
Let’s just use some common sense to make sure we all enjoy it.
July in Indiana can be brutal, as this weekend reminded everyone. High temperatures and high humidity combine for miserable conditions that are rough on humans, pets, and livestock.
Beating the heat isn’t always easy, particularly if you’re working outside, tending animals at the Jay County Fair, for instance. But a few precautions can make the difference between survival and tragedy.
First, pace yourself. It’s no time to prove you’re Superman. Use the shade when you can, and listen to what your body is telling you.
Chances are you’ll need more rest than usual. Your stamina will be diminished by the heat.
Second, hydrate frequently. Water’s our best friend at times like these. Use it to cool off and drink plenty of it to replace what you’re losing in sweat.
Third, watch out for others. We’re all in this heat wave together, and we can get through it if we keep an eye on one another.
Play it safe, and we’ll have a great week at the Jay County Fair. — J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
