Republican incumbent State Auditor Tim Berry encouraged attendees at the Jay County Republican Fall Banquet to go into battle for the party in the final two weeks before the election.
Berry, who is seeking re-election as state auditor, said that it’s time for Republicans to retake the country’s government from the local and state levels right to the national races.
“It is certainly not change we can believe in,” Berry said of the Democrats’ actions over the past two years.
Berry blasted the stimulus plan, healthcare reform and earmarks for running up the national debt during a recession. He said that the U.S. can’t spend its way out of economic trouble.
Berry said as he travels the state people ask him “‘Are we doing the same things in Indiana that we’re doing in Washington D.C.?’” He says his reply is, “With responsible Republican leadership, we’re not.”
He hailed the state’s fiscal diligence, especially compared to neighboring states and others states around the nation. Berry said the state’s low taxes and prudent spending will bring businesses to Indiana.
“Businesses are going to want to move to Portland or Jay County,” he said but warned, “The economy is not going to return if we have a federal government that thinks it’s going to spend its way out of a recession.”
Although Berry hailed Jay County as a Republican bastion in the state, he spoke out against complacency on election day.
“We know here in Jay County you’re going to elect Republicans,” Berry said.
He encouraged county Republicans to drum up support for U.S. Senate candidate Dan Coats to reclaim a Senate seat that has been in the hands of Democrats since Coats vacated the seat 12 years ago.
He also encouraged attendees to help return State Rep. Bill Davis to office in hopes that Republicans will reclaim that Indiana House which boasted a Democratic majority in the last session.
Berry said if everyone does their part to elect responsible, Republican leaders, the country will be in good hands.
“The Democrats have had their time,” he said. “This is our time now. … They’ve had their opportunity. It will only be our time if we engage in battle over the next 14 days,” he said.[[In-content Ad]]
