All bids submitted for asphalt paving emulsion for Jay County were accepted by county commissioners Monday.
Bids were opened during the commissioners’ April 4 meeting from Sem Materials of Warsaw for $224.35 per ton; Marathon of Indianapolis, for $241.20 per ton; Bit-Mat Products, Ashley, $269.50 per ton, and from Terry Industries, Hamilton, Ohio, for $208.56 per ton.
Bids were also opened at that time from LICA Construction Corp., Portland, for equipment rental and from Meshberger Bros. Stone Corp., Portland, for asphalt mix at $32 per ton, and those bids were also accepted.
Jay County Highway Superintendent Ken Wellman told commissioners he hopes to re-pave about 93 miles of county roads this year.
As commissioners continue to maintain the structure of the Jay County Courthouse, they received a quote Monday for the cleaning of the exterior of the structure.
Commissioners Milo Miller Jr., Gary Theurer, and Faron Parr received a price quote from Atlas Builders of Wabash for $34,228 to chemically clean and seal the exterior of the building.
They took no action on the matter.
Commissioners also approved a request from John Knipp, Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service agent, John Knipp, to use a county-owned parcel of land at West Water and Ship streets for a farmer’s market.
He told commissioners a Portland Farmers Market will also be located at the Jay Garment Antique Mall at 500 S. Meridian St. That market will be open on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until noon from May 1 through Nov. 15.
The roadside market can be open anytime May 1 through Nov. 15 except when the farmers market is open, Knipp explained.
Additionally Monday, Jay County Auditor Freda Corwin reminded residents that 2006 property tax statements will be mailed Thursday. The spring installment will be due May 10.[[In-content Ad]]
