Bids opened for Fort sewer project (02/07/06)

FORT RECOVERY — The Buck Ditch Storm Sewer replacement project will move one step closer to completion today when construction bids are opened.

“We don’t know exactly how many bids we have, but we have had 11 sets of plans taken by contractors, which is a pretty good number,” said Village administrator Randy Diller.

Though the construction schedule will be at the discretion of the contractor selected, the project is to be completed by May 19, 2006.

“Good weather permitting, this is about a two week project,” said Diller.

The village council also granted authorization Monday to begin accepting bids on a project that will replace the lights on the baseball/softball field at Fort Site Park.

Diller said the cost of the project is estimated at $45,000, and the Fort Recovery Lions Club has committed to paying $25,000.

In other business Monday night at the Council:

•Council members approved a resolution that allows 911 calls made from cell phones to go directly to dispatchers in Mercer County. Previously, these calls were handled by dispatchers and then re-directed.

Under Ohio state law, all municipalities must approve resolutions made at a county level.

•Council members discussed Ohio Senate Bill 82, which was passed into law at the state level last week and will become effective May 1.

Under this law, municipalities cannot restrict employees to living only within corporation limits.

“This is really a law for big cities,” said Diller. “But for us, people could live in our county but still be forty miles away.”

Diller said he did not know if the law would affect Fort Recovery in the future, but that he expects it to meet with legal resistance on the state level.

All Fort Recovery employees currently live within the village.[[In-content Ad]]
