Bill is paid for solar project
Jay County Commissioners
Due to a change in a grant procedure, the Jay County Commissioners signed an emergency claim to pay for the total cost of a solar heating system at the Jay County Highway garage, with the expectation the county will be reimbursed.
Jay County Auditor Nancy Culy said community developer Ami Huffman told her that the procedure for the Indiana Office of Energy Development grant had changed, and that the state is now requiring Jay County to pay the entire $38,224.34.
Originally, the county was to pay half and the installer, Sertech, would receive the other half directly from the state.
"We have to pay for all of it then they'll reimburse us," Culy said. "The grants now say you'll have to pay it out and they'll reimburse."
Culy said the total had to be paid by the end of the day today or the Office of Energy was going to pull the grant funds.
The solar heating system grant was approved in December and should save the county about $8,900 per year.
Commissioners Jim Zimmerman and Faron Parr - Milo Miller Jr. was absent today - signed an emergency claim to pay the other half of the cost, $19,122.
In other business this morning, the commissioners:
•Approved watershed assessment combinations for three property owners.
Assessments were combined for parcels owned by James and Diana Davis, 774 North 600 East, Portland; Ron and Joyce Albers, 7385 East 50 North, Portland; and Steven and Cynthia Muhlenkamp, 117 Ohio 219, Fort Recovery.
•Signed a resolution raising the watershed assessment rates for the Limberlost watershed to $1.50 per acre and $20 per plot. The commissioners, acting as the county drainage board, approved the increase after a public hearing on May 24.
•Signed an emergency claim to pay part of the cost for Goodhew Roofing Services, Ridgeville, to replace the roof on the Jay County Retirement Home at a cost of $16,400.
The total cost of the project will be around $53,000. A total of $10,000 will come out of the retirement center budget and the remaining $42,000 will be paid out of infrastructure funds.
Half of the cost is being paid now and the remaining half will be paid when the project is completed.[[In-content Ad]]
