Blue Jays torch Fort in 2nd (02/04/06)
FRHS boys basketball
FORT RECOVERY — Both teams were cold in the first half, and both warmed up in the second.
But one of them was much hotter over all.
The offense of the Delphos St. John’s Blue Jays roared to life in the second half Friday night to hit 75 percent from the field on the way to racking up a 62-42 win over the Fort Recovery Indians.
The Indians shot a dismal 31 percent from the field in the first half, including an 0-for-4 performance from three-point range. And while they improved to 52 percent in the second half, they were no match for St. John’s.
Three-point scoring was a killer for the Indians, with just two shots made from that distance out of 11 attempts.
With both teams struggling to find the basket in the first half, it was St. John’s ahead 14-10 at the end of the first quarter and 22-13 at the end of the half.
Having dug themselves a hole they couldn’t get out of, the Indians were then out-scored 18-13 in the third period and 22-16 in the fourth.
Travis VanSkyock led Fort Recovery in scoring with 12 points. Tony Diller followed with 11. VanSkyock also led in rebounds with six, while Ryan Staugler had four and Diller had three.
St. John’s was led by Kazz Bryan, who scored 15, and Derek Webb, who scored 14. Spencer Wells had 11 points.
St. John’s is now 6-8 for the season and 3-3 in the Midwest Athletic Conference. Fort Recovery is now 5-9 overall and 0-6 in the MAC.
In the junior varsity contest, it was St. John’s 39, Fort Recovery 36. Aaron Kahlig had 10 points.[[In-content Ad]]
