The Starfires won 11 games last year. Eight of those victories came with Alyssa Bluhm on the rubber.
Bluhm returns to lead the South Adams High School softball team this year as it seeks to climb above .500 after going 11-19 a year ago.
“It’s huge having her come back,” said SAHS coach Jessie O’Dell. “You know what you can count on. … She’s a terrific athlete. She’s gotten better. She’s gotten stronger.”
Bluhm and shortstop Kristen Muselman are the returning offensive leaders after hitting .392 and .337 respectively last season. The rest of the lineup will include third baseman Alyssa Ford, second baseman Lauren Smith, catcher Maddie Morgan and outfielders Brandy Rogers, Maizy Switer and Olivia Turner. Reba Morehouse and Loren Sparks will split time at first base, and Rachel Hirschy will also see time in the lineup.
“They want to have a winning record,” said O’Dell. “Since the season we won the sectional championship (2009) ... we haven’t really been able to recover. … Last year was a really good step forward. We were competitive in most games.”[[In-content Ad]]
